The Kraken Wakes

Oh, hello. I didn’t see you come in; looks like you’ve caught us napping.

Well, not really: we’re very much back from our Autumn slumber. Slumber might be pushing it a little far, actually – the observant amongst you will have noticed us up and about with a few things here and there; thanks espescially to those who’ve been along to enjoy Folk In A Box in any of its recent incarnations. Those of you who’ve yet to see it are in for something quite special, should you discover it.

But, to the point: there’s something terrifying lumbering over the horizon. It’s out in the country, it’s heritage-y, and it’s our biggest project to date.

I don’t want to give too much away, so you’ll have to wait for the proper announcement, which hopefully isn’t, at this stage, too far off. We’ve got a few mini-treats lined up along the road though, of which we’ll send word as and when they happen.

So, stick around. If you follow Dave’s helpful example below and listen up, you can expect some big news very soon indeed.

Hello,

We’ve just finished the inevitably sad job of tearing down the Heliocentre, dismantling the bar and saying goodbye to Galileo, as Standon Calling has come to an end for another year. Thanks to everyone who came to explore the environment we created, and our apologies to those who seemed perpetually at the back of the queue – hopefully all the other great acts at the festival kept you entertained, even if the HAC Heliocentre didn’t quite have room for you this time.

Well done to the entire team at Standon for putting on an incredible festival, and hugs for everyone responsible for keeping the atmosphere fun and energetic. To all those festivalgoers we met, thanks for playing with us - we'll see you very soon. Watch this space for news about what we're up to next.

Head down to London Bridge next week to see M-V-E-M-J-S-U-N-(P), a four-night event at the Shunt Lounge curated by Tom Duggan and The Heritage Arts Co.

We promise a pregnant collection of performance, installation, film, music and animation from Tom Duggan, The Heritage Arts Company and the friends of both. Whatever your game, there will be something you’ll want to play with – lose yourself in telescopic wonder or journey into outer space…it’s up to you to find the gems. Featuring:

The Telescopic Tunnel by Tom Duggan.

Room 0272 by The Heritage Arts Co.
This is the Cold War. You are being brought in to answer some questions, you’ll discuss the reasons behind your actions, you’ll fight tooth and nail for what you believe in and you won’t say a word. Whatever happens, don’t sign on the dotted line and you’ll be fine.

A Short Journey into Space by The Heritage Arts Co.
Take a deep breath and step into the capsule. The HAC will take into on a journey into the far reaches of outer space and deliver you home safely – all in the space of 5 minutes. Be brave and step right up, with any luck you’ll experience weightlessness of the mind, body and soul.

A Selection of Animations by Rob Ramsden.
As an illustrator/animator Rob practices a wide range of skills, both traditional and using computers to expand on the experience of expression and design. He uses these skills in both commercial and personal pursuits, these include animation, design, illustration, painting and drawing.

Scrap Solar System by David Wright.
A semi-scale moving model of the universe, made entirely from bits and bobs. This installation will tour festivals this summer, including Standon Calling which won the award for most innovative festival last year. David is one of the founding members of The Heritage Arts Company.

Back to the Shunt Lounge

We’re heading back to the Shunt Lounge in London Bridge, this time for a week in June curating the space with Tom Duggan. Expect new performances, interesting bands, development projects, art installations and film with live music. Remember to search all the nooks and crannies if you want to find everything. There’ll be a preview of things we’re working on for Standon Calling this year.

Shunt at London Bridge is, very sadly, closing down in July; come while you can. You won’t regret it.

Standon Calling in The Guardian

Hello,

The lovely face of our own Tim Wilson found a place in The Guardian today (Festival Special supplement, p. 18) speaking highly of Salena Godden’s Book Club Boutique at this year’s Standon Calling. We’re going to be at the festival with a Heritage Arts-ified installation on Galileo, which promises to be a lot of fun. Hope to see you there.

1978 Strikers Office

The HAC have installed a 1970’s strikers office in the Battersea Arts Centre as part of the Kneehigh Asylum Residencies. You can come and have a look at the installation for the next two weeks.
