Bingham Trust & Standon Calling Launch

Come down to the Cobden Club in West London on Friday the 28th of May to be a part of the Standon Calling 2010 launch party.

A collaboration between Standon, Heritage Arts and the Great Brain Robbery, the night promises great music, loads of live acts, and our personal favourite, an exclusive chance to meet the mysterious billionaire Lord Dick Bingham as he launches his new British ultra-bank: The Bingham Trust.

Now, there have been questions raised about Bingham’s legitimacy by the journalist/amateur sleuth Hunter Wakefield, who promises to be in attendance and grilling Bingham for all he’s worth (which is a considerable amount). Adding glamour to the event will be the beautiful Katherine J. Alibhai, gallery owner and underground art dealer, who (rumour has it) has some connection with Bingham and his riches.

Come down and meet this host of shady individuals, get a taste of what the Bingham Trust has to offer you and your kin this Summer, and get in on the ground floor for the only festival this summer to present a living narrative community to shakedown and party with: Standon Calling 2010.

We’re very excited to be working with the Standon Calling crew again for this year’s festival. Tim & I have just come back from a great planning weekend with the creative team, and this year is shaping up to be something really special. I don’t want to give too much away yet, but if you’ve enjoyed the event before, this one is going to give you the shivers. The theme is Murder on the Standon Express. Expect outlaw high-jinks, gilded gangsters, sentimental skulduggery and some really criminal puns. The line-up is awesome in more ways than one. See you there.

Radio S-HAC – Emerging

Now, this one’s a bit bizarre.

We’ve been receiving some rather strange radio transmissions here the Heritage Arts pen-tower. They’re a little garbled, a little fuzzy, and they’re coming from everywhere. We’ve picked up snippets of great speeches… haunting, untranslated chanting… snatches of pub conversations… musical folktales… in fact, a real earful of stuff apparently from anywhere, and anywhen.

What could this mean? Are the rumours of the Radio S-HAC true? Could we really be receiving transmissions from reporters on the scene at events across time and space?

Surely, this is impossible?

Surely?

Stowe House: The Great Auction

If you live in Buckinghamshire, or indeed, anywhere in England, and you haven’t been to see Stowe House, do yourself a favour and plan a little trip on the next sunny weekend you get (but be sure to check out the opening times).

Better still, open up your diary and mark off August Bank Holiday 2011 as the date to visit: we’re going to be there, and we’ve got something very, very special planned.

Since last Autumn, we’ve been working with the Worlds Monument Fund: Britain to come up with a way to open up this magnificent building and its grounds to the general public, and specifically to those who might not otherwise factor a trip to a country house into their holiday plans. We’re happy to announce that we are right in the middle of planning a great festival of theatre, music, dance a film with which to celebrate the long (and often hilarious, often tragic) history of Stowe House and its creators.

We’re keeping the details quite close to our collective chest for now, but I hope this will suffice to get you at least a little bit interested: it’s our largest project to date, we’ve got a raft of friends and associates already on board to work with us, and it’s going to be one of the most worthwhile days out you could take your family to.

Oh, and we’re doing a show in five of the most eye-popping state rooms you’ll ever see. Have a little look, then get that diary out.

The Stowe ‘festival’ is going to be a brilliant opportunity for families to come and see one of Britain’s true architectural and cultural treasures come to life. There’ll be drama, sport, workshops, music, dance classes, cabaret, and more. It’s going to be a great weekend and we hope to see you there.

Steampunk timetravellers broadcasting live from the past;

Neo-classical architecture, subterranean landscaping, Knights of the Garter, and an unquenchable desire for hats.

The Kraken Wakes

Oh, hello. I didn’t see you come in; looks like you’ve caught us napping.

Well, not really: we’re very much back from our Autumn slumber. Slumber might be pushing it a little far, actually – the observant amongst you will have noticed us up and about with a few things here and there; thanks espescially to those who’ve been along to enjoy Folk In A Box in any of its recent incarnations. Those of you who’ve yet to see it are in for something quite special, should you discover it.

But, to the point: there’s something terrifying lumbering over the horizon. It’s out in the country, it’s heritage-y, and it’s our biggest project to date.

I don’t want to give too much away, so you’ll have to wait for the proper announcement, which hopefully isn’t, at this stage, too far off. We’ve got a few mini-treats lined up along the road though, of which we’ll send word as and when they happen.

So, stick around. If you follow Dave’s helpful example below and listen up, you can expect some big news very soon indeed.

Hello,

We’ve just finished the inevitably sad job of tearing down the Heliocentre, dismantling the bar and saying goodbye to Galileo, as Standon Calling has come to an end for another year. Thanks to everyone who came to explore the environment we created, and our apologies to those who seemed perpetually at the back of the queue – hopefully all the other great acts at the festival kept you entertained, even if the HAC Heliocentre didn’t quite have room for you this time.

Well done to the entire team at Standon for putting on an incredible festival, and hugs for everyone responsible for keeping the atmosphere fun and energetic. To all those festivalgoers we met, thanks for playing with us - we'll see you very soon. Watch this space for news about what we're up to next.

Standon Showcase: Cafe Oto, July 4th
